Description

The German Shepherd originated in Germany in the late 1800s. This new breed was responsible for herding sheep and protecting flocks. Yet, German Shepherds have evolved over the years to take on many other jobs like: service dog; guide dog; search and rescue dog; police and military dog; explosive detecting dog; and even movie stars.

As a breed, German Shepherds are known for their intelligent, loyal, and hardworking natures. They also make wonderful family pets, but they need to stay active because of their high energy levels. They have a double coat which means there is twice as much fur and quite a bit of shedding. So frequent brushing is necessary.
